VA Museum Refurbishment Awarded and Other Gallery Work

MCD Group Ltd have been busy throughout the summer with the build of the Tate Britain Turner Prize, and will be shortly undertaking more exhibition builds for Tate Britain and the V&A Museum.

Blythe House Enabling Works

We are very pleased to have been successful with our bid to win the enabling works at Blythe House on behalf of Victoria and Albert Museum, British Museum and Science Museum. MCD Group Ltd have been appointed principle designer.

Works will start with ground and asbestos surveys to establish the size of our civil works, followed by the demolishing of various buildings on the site which will then be followed by ground works. Heritage gates and columns will be carefully dismantled, labelled and stored for reinstatement in 2023.

This is a very exciting project to be involved in, and we look forward to starting on site within the next few weeks.

Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge

The Fitzwilliam Museum houses some of the greatest art collections in the UK and MCD Group have been honoured to have carried out our first installation for the gallery with great success. We are excited to have been invited to quote for further works within the gallery and are looking forward to forming a long and lasting relationship with the gallery.

Kettle's Yard Cambridge

We have been helping Kettle's Yard Cambridge with their installations over the years and will be carrying out the turnaround for the next show. As part of the works we will be undertaking we will be building a small number of walls and pre-fabricating plinths and showcases to house the artworks that are to be exhibited.

Tate Britain Burne Jones Exhibition

The Edward Burne-Jones Exhibition will open on 24 October 2018 and will run until 24 February 2019. As one of the last Pre-Raphaelites Burne-Jones his inspiration came from medieval art, myths, and religion, creating spectacular paintings, tapestries and even stained glass windows.

The Tate Britain Exhibition will feature over 150 objects and MCD Group Ltd have been asked to build walls with very complex plinths and light boxes to house the stained glass artworks. The light boxes will be fabricated off site and pre-finished prior to delivery, to make sure that the installation goes smoothly. Although in building terms this seems like a small build, it is essential that we create the right exhibition space to meet the gallery's requirements. This will ensure that Burne Jones' stained glass artworks will be displayed at their very best.

Tate Britain Turner Prize

The Turner Prize opened at Tate Britain on  26 September this year and focuses on tackling pressing issues in today's society. MCD Group Ltd were fortunate again to be invited to undertake the build, which was complex and challenging. It was a large build with works from 4 Audio-Visual artists. The very nature of the installations meant that walls and ceilings needed to be sound insulated with additional acoustic panelling applied,  and then fabric wrapped. All the projection screens that were installed were pre-fabricated, fabric wrapped, and installed on site by our fantastic joinery team.

We always take pride in all the exhibition builds that we undertake to ensure that they are professional, precise, in line with gallery's and artist's thoughts, and on time. Having a large team of experts on hand means that we can build even complicated installations quickly, providing outstanding work that enhances exhibits rather than detracts from them. That's why we pride ourselves in our ability to offer and deliver a service that we consider is unrivalled in the exhibition aspect of our business.

Totem Beast plinths for Tate Britain

The Duveens area of the Tate Britain is currently housing the Anthea Hamilton sculpture and performance. Over the past six months a solo performer selects an outfit for the day from a choice of seven elaborate costumes, and enacts their own interpretation of a 1960 image amongst domestic tiles and sculptures. This exhibition is due to finish this weekend and MCD Group Ltd have been commissioned to remove the entire Anthea Hamilton exhibition, including the tiles, and restore the gallery back to its original fabric. We also have to build 40 Totem Beast plinths and install these as per the gallery's instructions.

V&A Museum refurbishment

One of the most essential part of any exhibition space are the facilities, and of course the V&A Museum have many of these. However, we are pleased to have been awarded a contract to refurbish 6 toilet areas and 2 tea point areas for both staff and VIP visitors to the museum.

The works will include completely stripping out of all areas right back to the shell of the building. We will then install new M&E, wall panelling, cubicles and sanitary wear working with the V&A design team to achieve a quality finish.
